The Human Bit

Anthropic · Claude Cowork · 7 July 2026

Cowork no longer needs your laptop to stay awake.

Cowork is moving onto web and mobile, with remote sessions in beta that can continue after the laptop closes and scheduled work that can run while no device is online.

The Human Bit take

This is a meaningful workflow change, not a cosmetic release. Test it if you are on a plan that has it; wait if the required plan or file setup creates more work than it saves.

Why this may matter

Remote execution makes recurring work genuinely more useful. It also changes the risk: people must understand which files are local, which are in the account and what a scheduled task may do unattended.

Keep human

Check account permissions, file location, stale inputs and every external action. Remote should mean available, not unsupervised authority. Remote running is still in beta, so treat unattended behaviour as unproven rather than settled.

What changed

Anthropic began rolling Cowork out on web and mobile, starting with Max and saying more plans will follow. Remote session running is in beta; sessions and files are saved to the Claude account, while Chat and Cowork now share a home for projects and artifacts.

Real example

An owner schedules a Friday operating review. Cowork gathers approved inputs, drafts the pack and leaves exceptions waiting for review, even if the office computer is off.

A bounded test

Use the same Monday-report pack and scorecard as ChatGPT Work. Keep the inputs, output requirements and stop conditions identical.

Test protocol ready

Inspect the inputs and scorecard before running it.

A ready protocol is not a completed test result. The evidence label above remains unchanged until a reviewed run exists.

Sources and review

Sources retain their own provenance. A provider announcement establishes what was announced; it does not become independent testing.

Canonical claim: Anthropic began rolling Cowork out on web and mobile, starting with Max and saying more plans will follow. Remote session running is in beta; sessions and files are saved to the Claude account, while Chat and Cowork now share a home for projects and artifacts.

Readiness: A reproducible protocol is ready, but no Human Bit result is claimed.
