Build the Monday report without automating the mess
A recurring report takes two hours every Monday. Work out what to remove, what ordinary software should handle and where AI may earn a small role.

What is actually going on?
Start with the job, not the shiny tool.
Sam runs a 14-person services business. Every Monday, a manager copies figures from three systems into a document, asks team leads for updates and writes a page of commentary.
The report takes around two hours, arrives late and contains sections nobody discusses. Sam’s first instinct is to buy an AI reporting tool and automate the entire document.
The real decision is not ‘which AI writes reports?’ It is ‘what decision should this report support, and what is the simplest reliable way to produce only that?’
Give the leadership team a trustworthy ten-minute view of delivery risks and decisions needed this week.
The report has no agreed reader, purpose or data owner. Automating it would reproduce ambiguity faster.
